Year 5

PE / Games



PE is taught by  on a Monday and Games is taught  on a Wednesday.  Please can you ensure that your child brings in their PE/Games kit on these days. PE lessons are usually held in the hall and Games lessons taught outside.




Children are given the following pieces of homework each week:


A Maths or Literacy  piece of work 

Weekly Reading Homework on the Active Learn website using Bug Club


Homework is given out each Friday and it is expected to be completed by the following Wednesday.  Spelling tests will be carried out each Monday, with children given a new set of words to learn each week. The Maths Interactive Homework tasks will be allocated to children each week and can be found on the My Maths website  Any issues with forgotten usernames or passwords, please see Mrs Heathfield. 

Alchemy Island - Autumn Term

We begin our magical journey into Year 5 by visiting Alchemy Island where we will learn about materials, map reading and

Stargazers! - Spring Term


This term year 5 will learn all about the solar system, looking at astronauts, distances of the planets, gravity and more. We will be reading Myths and Legends.

Allotment - Spring Term

We will be developing green fingers in Year 5 as we start planting and growing our own vegetables and look forward to making something out of the food we have grown. 


Exploring our own environments and identifying what grows where we live will be a focus for our learning.

Revolution!  - Summer

In the spring term, Year 5 will be learning all about the life of a Victorian. They will explore inventors, school life, working in the mines and the revolution.
